MetroHealth named Natalie Joseph, MD, chair of its department of surgery, the Cleveland-based health system said in an Aug. 17 news release.
Dr. Joseph previously served as interim chair of the department, interim executive director of MetroHealth’s Cancer Institute, director of the division of surgical oncology and director of the Center for Breast Health. She is also a past president of the medical staff.
A surgical oncologist, Dr. Joseph has spent nearly 18 years at MetroHealth. She is nationally recognized for an approach to patient care that addresses medical diagnoses alongside patients’ social and economic circumstances.
“What has always inspired me about MetroHealth is the people,” Dr. Joseph said. “Our caregivers understand that a diagnosis is often only one part of a patient’s story.”
David Stepnick, MD, chief physician executive at MetroHealth, called Dr. Joseph “an exceptional surgeon, educator and leader whose commitment to our patients and our mission is evident in everything she does.”
The department of surgery includes specialists in bariatric, vascular, surgical oncology, and plastic and reconstructive surgery, along with trauma services; MetroHealth operates a Level I adult trauma center.
