Former Surgery Partners CEO named CFO of UnitedHealth Group

UnitedHealth Group has announced the appointment of Wayne DeVeydt, former CEO of ASC chain Surgery Partners, as its new chief financial officer, effective September 2.

Here are three points to know:

1. Mr. DeVeydt most recently served as managing director and operating partner at Bain Capital. He held the role of chairman and CEO at Surgery Partners from 2018 to 2020 and was CFO of Anthem (now Elevance Health) from 2007 to 2016.

2. Current CFO John Rex will transition to a new role as strategic advisor to CEO Stephen Hemsley, also beginning September 2.

3. Mr. Rex originally joined UnitedHealth Group in 2012, serving as CFO of Optum before advancing to his current role.
