1. After stepping down as CEO, senior vice president for clinical affairs and professor of emergency medicine in January 2017, Dr. McCabe was appointed to the position of senior assistant president.
2. The total compensation in 2017 for Dr. Danielle Laraque-Arena, who became Upstate Medical University’s president in 2016, was $608,000.
3. The hospital paid interim CEO Steven Scott $525,000 in 2017.
4. When he left the CEO post, Dr. McCabe said he had no interest in working full-time. He did not confirm to Syracuse.com whether or not his senior assistant president position is full-time.
5. Dr. McCabe’s role includes serving as a consultant to Laraque-Arena and other senior leaders at the hospital, according to an Upstate spokesman.
6. “Management claims there is not enough money to hire and retain more nurses, so those on staff are forced to work overtime and many have even been denied the time to take a lunch break,” said Wayne Spence, president of the New York State Public Employees Federation union.
