A Winter Park, Fla. plastic surgery center has agreed to pay $40,000 and implement anti-discrimination measures to settle allegations that it violated the Americans with Disabilities Act by refusing to provide services to patients with HIV and Crohn’s disease, the Justice Department said in a June 15 news release.
Azad Plastic Surgery allegedly refused to schedule plastic surgery consultations for two patients based on their conditions, relying on incorrect assumptions rather than current medical knowledge.
Under the settlement, the practice must pay $20,000 to each complainant, adopt and post a non-discrimination policy, provide ADA training to all personnel and report any disability discrimination complaints to the Justice Department for the next two years.
