Dr. Shelton, James Manning, MD, and Gene Barrett, MD, established the full-service orthopedic subspecialty practice in 1984.
Under their leadership, the Jackson, Miss.-based practice has grown to include 17 subspecialized physicians, six clinic locations, three physical therapy centers, two sports performance centers, two urgent care locations and an orthopedic ASC.
Dr. Shelton is retiring just as MSMOC opens its new 60,000-square-foot surgery center in Flowood, Miss., which replaces MSMOC’s existing center in Madison, Miss.
The new facility will have eight operating rooms, three procedure rooms and four extended-stay recovery rooms. It will also house a full-service clinic, sports performance and physical therapy centers, urgent care space, and a pharmacy.
Dr. Shelton’s career accomplishments include serving as president of the Arthroscopy Association of North America in 2007.
MSMOC is holding a retirement party for Dr. Shelton at its new Flowood campus on Aug. 16.
