Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai has named Mia Miller, MD, director of its Division of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery within the Jim and Eleanor Randall Department of Surgery.

According to a July 1 news release, Dr. Miller, a neurotologist and skull base surgeon, joined Cedars-Sinai in 2021 and has served as director of neurotology for the health system’s Acoustic Neuroma and Lateral Skull Base Surgery Center. She holds the inaugural LuEllen Margaret Edwards Chair in Otology and Neurotology and has hired the division’s first otolaryngology PhD researcher to help build a hearing regeneration lab.

“My vision is to continue to develop each of our subspecialties to the highest standard of rigorous academics and education paired with clinical excellence,” Dr. Miller said in the release.

Cristina Ferrone, MD, chair of the Department of Surgery at Cedars-Sinai, said Dr. Miller’s surgical expertise and educational focus make her suited to lead the division. Dr. Miller succeeds Gene Liu, MD, who recruited 19 surgeons across the network and established the health system’s ENT residency during his tenure, according to Dr. Ferrone.

Dr. Miller earned her medical degree from Harvard Medical School, trained at UCLA and completed a neurotology and skull base surgery fellowship at UC San Diego. She previously directed the Center for Balance and Falls at UCSF and spent seven years at the House Ear Clinic.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
