The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons recognized New York City-based Hospital for Special Surgery's Clinical Director of Orthopedic Surgery Michael Parks, MD, with its 2019 Diversity Award.

1. Dr. Parks received the recognition for his research work on socioeconomic and racial disparities in arthritis care and total joint replacement surgery access. He's published several articles on racial differences in joint replacement outcomes.
2. AAOS established its Diversity Award to recognize AAOS members who are commitmented to making orthopedics more representative of patient populations.
3. Dr. Parks received the recognition at AAOS 2019, March 13-15 in Las Vegas.
