10 things to know about Ambulatory Surgery Center Association

Ambulatory Surgery Center Association is the national member association representing ASCs spanning the country.

Here are 10 things to know about the organization:

1. Headquartered in Alexandria, Va., ASCA fulfills a variety of functions such as advocacy work and helping ASCs deliver cost-effective care.

2. As of July, the nonprofit had 52 total employees.

3. ASCA was founded in 2008.

4. ASCA has a five-tiered affiliate program that honors and supports ASC industry suppliers and business partners.

5. ASCA members advocate for ASCs by working with various legislative and regulatory bodies, publishing ASC resources and holding various educational events for industry professionals.

6. Rebecca Craig, RN, is the organization's president. In addition to her role at ASCA, she is the CEO of Fort Collins, Colo.-based Harmony Surgical Center.

7. Twenty-one members currently comprise ASCA's board of directors.

8. ASCA elected new board members in May 2017. ASCA named Lisa Austin, RN, and Jennifer Butterfield, RN, BSN, to the board. Ms. Austin is the vice president of facility development for Lakewood, Colo.-based Pinnacle III. Ms. Butterfield, RN, BSN, is the administrator of Lakes Surgery Center in Detroit.

9. In June, ASCA and Healthcare Asset Network partnered to create ASCA Asset Network, a secure online portal allowing ASCs to buy and sell healthcare supplies and equipment. The network is streamlined and vetted for new and refurbished equipment.

10. ASCA formed an affinity partnership with SPH Analytics in May to offer discounted Outpatient and Ambulatory Surgery Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems rates. ASCA assessed OAS CAHPS survey providers and decided to pursue a partnership with SPH Analytics because of their survey knowledge and experience working with ASCA members.
