Surgeons are the highest-paid professionals in Maine, according to Zippia, a career coaching and training company.

Zippia determined the highest paying jobs in each state based on 2017 data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Here are the 12 states where surgeons are the top-paid professionals:

1. Maine: $287,030
2. Delaware: $286,400
3. Nebraska: $283,760
4. New Mexico: $281,960
5. Michigan: $281,570
6. North Carolina: $279,530
7. Wisconsin: $279,510
8. Rhode Island: $278,300
9. Kansas: $278,060
10. Georgia: $277,260
11. Kentucky: $270,300
12. Maryland: $269,590
