Retired Banks Eye Center owner Dr. Nelson Banks dies

Nelson Banks, MD, 75, died March 27 in Buffalo (N.Y.) General Medical Center following surgical complications, The Buffalo News reports.

Dr. Banks was a retired ophthalmologist.

He earned his medical degree from New York City-based Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons. He served in the U.S. Army for three years in Germany, before returning to complete his medical training at New York City-based Mount Sinai Hospital.

After his residency, he opened the two Banks Eye Centers in Jamestown, N.Y., and Buffalo. He operated the centers from 1976 to 1991. He was forced to retire due to a stroke in 1991, but enjoyed a retirement filled with golf.

Dr. Banks is survived by his wife, his son and his two daughters.
