Physician Partners of America promotes Tracie Lawson to president, COO: 5 key notes

Physician Partners of America named Tracie Lawson president and COO.

Here are five things to know:

1. Ms. Lawson joined PPOA in 2014 and was promoted to COO in 2015. In her new role, she will oversee the daily operations and development of PPOA and affiliated facilities.

2. PPOA Founder Rodolfo Gari, MD, is handing the reigns over to Ms. Lawson as the company experiences rapid growth; in the past four years, PPOA opened 21 interventional pain management practices and five ASCs. The company has also opened DNA testing laboratories, a primary care practice, an orthopedic practice, personal injury practices, psychology and workers' compensation practices.

3. Over the next year, PPOA centers expect to begin performing minimally invasive spine surgeries and plan to add a new pain management practice in Wellington, Jackson and Orange Park, Fla. The company will also pursue the medical pavilion model, which places physicians and medical services in a single location.

4. Ms. Lawson previously worked as a nurse for Tampa Pain Relief Clinic, Dr. Gari's first medical business venture. He recommended she pursue a business degree, which she achieved through an MBA.

5. Her previous roles in PPOA included opening new clinics and seeing patients as well as managing the company's strategic growth.
