Ophthalmologist behind one of 1st ASCs in Northwest Washington dies

Retired ophthalmologist Thomas Dale Case, MD, 76, died March 12, MLTNews reports.

Dr. Case helped establish the Poulsbo, Wash.-based North Kitsap Medical Center, which opened one of the first outpatient surgery centers in the area — Pacific Surgery Center — through its Pacific Eyecare division.

Dr. Case undertook medical missionary work in Peru, India and Costa Rica.

A father of two and grandfather of three, Dr. Case met his wife during an ophthalmology externship in 1967. He went on to graduate from the University of Oregon Medical School in Portland and complete an ophthalmology residency at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.

During retirement, Dr. Case grew award-winning grapes on a 10-acre plot of land called Zillah Bluff Vineyards and constructed wood and metal toy boats.

The family asks that donations in Dr. Case's memory be made to the Parkinson Foundation.
