New RN program seeks to tackle Maine's nursing shortage: 3 things to know

To combat Maine's shortage of registered nurses, Bangor, Maine-based Beal College is now offering a 20-month nursing associate degree program.

Three things to know:

1. Colleen Koob, RN, BSN, DNP, serves as the director of the program. Students who complete the program can sit for the National Council Licensure Examination and apply for state licensure as a registered nurse in Maine.

2. Students can start the program at three different times per year. Beal has no waitlists for its nursing program.

3. According to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for skilled nurses will increase 15 percent by 2026.
