HCA Holdings to become HCA Healthcare: 5 things to know about the change

HCA Holdings, based in Nashville, is changing its name to HCA Healthcare, according to The Tennessean.

Here are five key notes:

1. CEO Milton Johnson told investors during an earnings call recently the company was changing its name to "better reflect how the company interacts with patients," according to the Tennessean.

2. The change is expected to take place later this month, as the company attempts to build networks in key markets including Nashville. HCA owns TriStar Health and recently announced plans to purchase three hospitals in Houston, making the total number of HCA hospitals in the city 14.

3. The company will continue to trade on the stock market as HCA.

4. Several other healthcare systems have undergone recent branding or name changes, including LifePoint Health's update from LifePoint Hospitals in 2015.

5. Health systems are increasingly expanding to include more outpatient facilities such as urgent care facilities, freestanding emergency rooms and ASCs in addition to hospitals. HCA currently includes 171 hospitals and 118 surgery centers in 20 states and the United Kingdom.
