Employment vs. self-employment — What do younger & older physicians choose?

While slightly more than one-quarter of all physicians are self-employed, the trend is leaning away from private practice, according to Medscape‘s Young Physician Compensation Report.

Here are four statistics:

Employed
1. Under 40: 85 percent
2. Age 40 to 69: 61 percent

Self-employed
3. Under 40: 12 percent
4. Age 40 to 69: 33 percent
