6 things to know about marketing for physicians

Chief Market gives marketers key strategies on successfully reaching physicians and details what physicians seek in industry news.

Here are six things to know:

1. Small practice physicians are in charge of their purchasing decisions, making these providers a key market to target. Throughout the United States, 61 percent of providers worked in practices with 10 or fewer providers in 2014.

2. Physicians can relay information to patients, with general practitioners seeing more than 3,500 patients annually. Specialists see 2,700 patients each year.

3. Physicians can recommend prescriptions, health procedures and food options to patients to enhance their overall health.

4.  HealthLink Dimensions, an Atlanta-based data solutions provider, found 68 percent of physicians prefer marketers contact them via email.

5. More than 66 percent of physicians use WedMD as a reliable source of information and 46 percent refer to medical journal websites for product and disease information.

6. Seventy-two percent of physicians want to receive industry-sponsored accredited continuing medical education and almost two-thirds wants information on disease and patient education materials.
