5 factors medical residents seek in their first job

A good work schedule and reasonable call hours are the top factors medical residents consider when looking for their first job, according to Medscape's "Residents Lifestyle & Happiness Report 2019."

Five top factors residents consider:

1. Work schedule/call hours: 75 percent
2. Starting salary/compensation: 64 percent
3. Supportive organizational/practice environment: 53 percent
4. Educational/professional growth opportunities: 28 percent
5. Potential for career advancement: 27 percent
