$16 Billion in Medicaid Funding for States Passes Senate, Goes to House

The U.S. Senate approved $16.1 billion to help the states pay Medicaid bills next year and sent the measure to the House, which is expected to come back from summer recess and vote on it next Tuesday, according to Politico.

Without the extra funding, an enhanced federal medical assistance percentage for beleaguered state Medicaid programs will expire in December. The new bill would extend the FMAP enhancement for six more months but reduce the amount to 3.2 percent in the first quarter of 2011 and 1.2 percent for the second.
