SGNA Issues ‘Reuse of Single-Use Critical Medical Devices’ Statement

The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates has issued the “Reuse of Single-Use Critical Medical Devices” statement that officially defines critical medical devices, original devices, reusable medical devices, reprocessing, reprocessed single-use devices and single-use devices, according to an EndoNurse report.

The SGNA statement supports further research on the risks and potential benefits of reprocessing single-use medical devices, but states that until sufficient evidence has been found, devices labeled as single-use should not be re-used.
