Former Nashville-based Vanderbilt University gastroenterologist Terrence Allen Smith, MD, died at VUMC on April 7 following a bicycle accident, according to an April 18 report from the Williamson Herald.
Dr. Smith, 68, was a resident of Brentwood, Tenn., and a former U.S. Army flight surgeon. He first joined Vanderbilt in 2003 as an assistant professor of medicine, spending 20 years at VUMC.
During his career, he developed Vanderbilt’s small bowel center and earned its Deans Award for Academic Excellence. He retired in 2023.
