UC Davis and the Redding (Calif.) Endoscopy Center are creating a gastroenterology fellowship program, according to a June 4 report from Action News Now.
The program would train physicians to treat digestive disorders and cancers. Physicians who already completed an internal medicine residency will be able to apply.
The Redding Endoscopy Center previously served patients from across Northern California, but now only accepts patients from Shasta County due to a lack of specialists.
The fellowship would train one to two new specialists each year. The first cohort is expected to begin training next summer if funding and final approvals are secured, the report said.
