Rebecca Kim, MD, assistant professor in the division of gastroenterology at the University of Utah School of Medicine in Salt Lake City, received a K23 career development grant to study how social determinants of health affect liver disease outcomes.
Dr. Kim’s project, “SDoH Screening and Interventions to Reduce Disparities in Liver Disease,” will focus on implementing social determinants of health screening in clinical practice, developing interventions for patients with unmet social needs and evaluating how those interventions affect liver disease outcomes, according to a May 8 news release from the health system.
The K23 Mentored Patient-Oriented Research Career Development Award supports early career physician-scientists developing independent research programs.
Dr. Kim’s research will examine how factors such as access to care and socioeconomic conditions influence chronic liver disease progression and management. The project also aims to identify interventions that could reduce disparities in liver care.
