The University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center has named Marcoandrea Giorgi, MD, chief of its division of gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery, effective Nov. 1, 2026.
Dr. Giorgi joined the medical center after serving in several clinical, academic and leadership roles at Providence, R.I.-based Brown Surgical Associates and The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, according to a July 2 Linkedin announcement.
At Brown, Dr. Giorgi served as director of abdominal wall and hernia, fellowship program director for the advanced gastrointestinal minimally invasive, bariatric, hernia and abdominal wall fellowship, associate professor of surgery and surgery residency site director. He also has been a minimally invasive and bariatric surgeon with Brown Surgical Associates since 2019.
At the University of Rochester Medical Center, Dr. Giorgi succeeds Joseph Johnson, MD. He said he plans to build on the division’s existing programs in patient care, surgical education, clinical innovation and academic surgery.
