TIF vs. traditional surgical GERD treatment: 7 things to know

EndoGastric Solutions has released an independent study comparing transoral incisionless fundoplication to nissen fundoplication and toupet fundoplication as gastroesophageal reflux disease treatments.

Here are seven things to know about the study.

•    83 percent of patients in the TIF group experienced GERD symptoms less than once per month after the procedure.
•    80 percent of patients in the nissen fundoplication group experienced GERD symptoms less than once per month after the procedure.
•    92 percent of patients in the toupet fundoplication group experienced GERD symptoms less than once per month after the procedure.
•    The average procedure time for TIF was 71 minutes.
•    The average procedure time for nissen was 85 minutes.
•    The average procedure time for toupet was 119 minutes.
•    The hospital stay after TIF was shorter than both nissen and toupet.
