What you should know:

1. The site will complement Takeda’s research centers in Cambridge, Mass., and Shonan, Japan.

2. Takeda will advance its gastroenterology and neuroscience therapeutic areas at the San Diego facility.

3. Takeda has worked on expanding its drug pipeline in recent years. Before 2015, Takeda was largely focused on small molecule-based drug development. Today, more than half of its research efforts fall outside of small molecules.
