The procedure, also known as the Gastric Reduction Duodenal Switch, inhibits absorption of calories or fats from food consumed by patients.
Two years after surgery, patients had lost 50 pounds more on average than those who underwent gastric bypass weight loss surgery. But because of the risks, authors said the procedure should only be performed on carefully selected patients.
