Esophageal Cancer Diagnosis Increasing Faster Than Other Cancer Diagnoses

Esophageal cancer is the fastest-increasing cancer diagnosis in the United States, according to a Baltimore Sun report.

Responding to an estimated diagnosis increase of more than 400 percent in the past two decades, the Esophageal Cancer Action Network established April as Esophageal Cancer Awareness Month.

Bruce Greenwald, MD, president of ECAN’s board of directors and professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, discussed causes and prevention of esophageal cancer with the Baltimore Sun.
