Stretta therapy proves safe for bariatric patients with chronic GERD

A presentation at the SAGES Welcome Reception, April 15, discusses Stretta therapy as a safe and effective treatment for chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease in bariatric patients.

Duke University has introduced Stretta Therapy to treat bariatric patients. Stretta, being is non-surgical, is delivered through the mouth and does not alter the anatomy the patient’s anatomy. It is an alternative that permits further surgery if necessary and leaves the gastric sleeve or Roux-En-Y anatomy unaffected.

In addition, data from a recent animal study, published online in Colorectal Disease, was presented. The study examined the effect of radiofrequency at the levels delivered by Stretta and Secca to the smooth muscle of the GI tract.
