Southern California Gastroenterology, 15 Independent Physician Practices Form California Integrated Physician Practice Association

A group of 16 small, independent group practices, including Southern California Gastroenterology, have banded together to create the California Integrated Physician Practice Association, according to a Sacramento Business Journal report.

The association includes more than 260 gastroenterologists, oncologists, orthopedic surgeons, urologists and physicians from various specialties.

The integrated association first came together in April to fight against Senate Bill 1215, which would have prohibited physicians from referring patients to physician therapy, imaging, pathology or radiation therapy services performed in the physician's office or group practice's office, according to the report. The bill was killed that same month.

The integrated group aims to educate policymakers on how integrated care offered in the independent practice setting can reduce healthcare costs and promote patient care coordination.
