Smartphone Apps Can Prepare Patients for Colonoscopies

A smartphone app may be the best way to prepare patients for a colonoscopy, according to a study from Sundeep Singh, MD, of Stanford University in California.

Researchers found that mobile apps served as a virtual coach; paired with natural language processing, text, graphics and vocal output, an app best-served patients of all ages.

They found apps to be “easy to use and engaging,” even in patients who had previously undergone bowel preparation and colonoscopy recovery.
