The Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates has joined the several other professional physician and infection prevention organizations and released a statement on infection transmission through ERCP duodenoscopes, according to an EndoNurse report.
SGNA's recommendations to avoid carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae transmission through ERCP scopes include:
• Working with infection prevention and quality departments
• Performing competency tests with reprocessing staff members
• Reviewing all reprocessing instructions and policies
• Educating all endoscopy unit staff members on CRE
• Assessing patient population to understand infection risk
• Considering a one-time post-procedure culture of endoscopes with elevator mechanism
