Dr. Parekh conducted a research study on CRNA propofol sedation in ambulatory endoscopy centers and presented his findings at the annual meeting. The study, titled “Do CRNAs Need On-Site MD Anesthesia Supervision for Safe Propofol Sedation in an Ambulatory Endoscopy Center (AEC)?” received an ACG Auxiliary Award.
According to a Medscape report, Dr. Parekh’s study reviewed more than 100,000 patient records and showed adverse event rates were low when CRNAs handled sedation, whether an anesthesiologist was present or not.
