Pentax Medical has sold its C2 CryoBalloon technology, a minimally invasive tool for treating gastrointestinal conditions, to Merit Medical Systems, according to an Oct. 15 news release.

The transaction supports Pentax Medical’s focus on flexible reusable endoscopy, allowing the company to concentrate on its core expertise.

Merit Medical plans to integrate the C2 CryoBalloon into its endoscopy portfolio to expand adoption and access for patients with Barrett’s Esophagus and GERD-related conditions, according to the release.

Manufacturing of the device will shift to Merit Medical’s facility in South Jordan, Utah, and several Pentax Medical employees will join Merit.

At the Becker’s 32nd Annual Meeting: The Business and Operations of ASCs, taking place October 29-31 in Chicago, ASC leaders, surgeons and healthcare executives will explore strategies to drive growth, enhance operational performance, navigate reimbursement challenges and prepare for the future of ambulatory surgery.
