Here’s what you should know:

1. The scope is the first FDA-cleared duodenoscope with a disposable distal cap.

2. Physicians use the scope during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography. The detachable, disposable distal cap makes the scope easier to clean and reprocess.

3. The scope allows for improved high definition visualization and offers ergonomic controls.

The FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health’s Acting Director of the Office of Device Evaluation William Maisel, MD, said “We believe the new disposable distal cap represents a major step towards lowering the risk of future infections associated with these devices.”

Pentax Medical Americas President David Woods said, “With the C.A.P. HD Duodenoscope, we respond to a clinical need in a meaningful way.”
