Here’s what you should know:

1. The SmartBand Multi-Band Ligation Kit is an anti-slip, latex-free band that stays on the tissue for reliable band retention. The band allows physicians to endoscopically ligate esophageal varices at or above the gastroesophageal junction.

2. The device has a number of design features to facilitate correct placement, among them is its anti-slip design which grips and traps tissue within its recessed groves. Intelligent Endoscopy also created packs of additional bands to prevent the need to open a new kit every time more bands are needed.

3. Olympus America’s Group Vice President of Endoscopy Kurt Heine said, “This distribution agreement with Intelligent Endoscopy complements our robust portfolio for endoscopic treatment of major GI conditions. Our focus on finding the best endoscopic devices bolsters our already leading role in visualization and processing solutions for the GI team. These synergies can help contribute to better quality care, cost reduction and improved patient satisfaction.”

4. The companies didn’t disclose the agreement’s terms.
