Additionally, because many Americans with these illnesses struggle to pay for medical bills in this economy, most of these patients do not believe the new national healthcare reform law will help them. Key findings from the survey include the following:
• 22 percent of surveyed cancer patients say the economic downturn has forced them to use up most or all of their savings in order to deal with medical bills, co-payments and other fees related to their illness.
• 21 percent of cancer patients say the economic downturn has made it more stressful to manage their condition.
• 43 percent of cancer patients believe they will be worse off under the new healthcare reform law.
