Louisville, KY.-based Norton Audubon Hospital has become the first facility in Kentucky to offer endoscopic ultrasound-guided radiofrequency ablation for pancreatic cancer, a minimally invasive procedure that targets tumors with greater precision.
Gastroenterologist William Evans III, MD, performed the state’s first EUS-RFA, which combines ultrasound imaging and radiofrequency energy to shrink or destroy tumors while sparing healthy tissue. The approach offers new treatment options for patients with inoperable or difficult-to-treat pancreatic cancers, according to an Oct. 10 system news release.
The technology’s addition was funded through donations from the Norton Healthcare Foundation and the Connie Erickson Foundation.
