Have Gastroenterologists Stopped Taking Medicare?

In the Gastroenterologist Compensation Report: 2013, Medscape asked respondents whether they would consider not taking Medicare patients. Medicare traditionally reimburses lower than private payers for the same procedures.

The gastroenterologists responded:

•    I plan to stop taking new Medicare/Medicaid patients: 9 percent
•    I plan to stop taking current Medicare/Medicaid Patients: 3 percent
•    I will continue taking new and current Medicare/Medicaid patients: 58 percent
•    I have not yet decided: 30 percent
