The GI Quality Improvement, the American College of Gastroenterology and American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy joint quality reporting program, has had more than 1 million colonoscopy cases submitted to its national registry.

Participation in GIQuIC has increased by nearly 15,000 new cases per week in recent months. More than 2,000 endoscopy center physicians across the country are registered participants.

“Reaching 1 million cases from the 100,000 cases we reported just two years ago has exceeded our expectations. We expect this number will steadily increase as there is more emphasis from payers and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services for physicians to document compliance with quality measures,” said Glenn M. Eisen, MD, MPH, FASGE, vice president of the GIQuIC board.

GIQuIC is a CMS-approved Quality Clinical Data Registry, which is a reporting mechanism for the Physician Quality Reporting System.
