GI physician leader to know: Dr. Paul Thuluvath of Mercy Medical Center

Paul J. Thuluvath, MD, is chief of the division of gastroenterology at Mercy Medical Center in Baltimore and medical director of The Melissa L. Posner Institute for Digestive Health & Liver Disease at Mercy. He is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in London, England.

Dr. Thuluvath has a professional interest in liver disease, hepatitis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. He leads clinical trials in liver disease, particularly focused on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. He serves on the editorial boards of Hepatology, Liver Transplant and Gastrointestinal Endoscopy. He published a reference book called “Hepatitis C: A Complete Guide for Patients and Families” and has authored over 150 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.

Dr. Thuluvath earned his medical degree at St. Johns Medical College, Bangalore University in India, where he also completed his internal medicine residency. He completed his fellowship at University of Sheffield School of Medicine/Cambridge University in the United Kingdom.
