GI leader to know: Dr. Robert Burakoff of the Lower Manhattan Hospital

Robert Burakoff, MD, is the site chief for the division of gastroenterology and hepatology at the New York City-based Lower Manhattan Hospital.

Dr. Burakoff is the vice chair for ambulatory services for the department of medicine at New York City-based Weill Cornell Medicine and New York City-based NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center. He was the founding editor and co-editor in chief of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases, a journal dedicated to clinical and basic research in inflammatory bowel disease.

Dr. Burakoff’s research interests include the scope of inflammatory bowel disease and gastroenterological motility disorders.

He has served as the GI Fellowship Program director at the Winthrop-University Hospital, the Washington Hospital Center and at Boston-based Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Burakoff served as the chair of the American Gastroenterological Association’s Advocacy and Public Policy Committee and represented the Patient Bill of Rights to President George W. Bush during his administration.
