GI leader to know: Dr. Nezam Afdhal of the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center

Nezam H. Afdhal, MD, is chief of the division of gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition at the Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Dr. Afdhal has worked at the hospital for 19 years, and assumed his current role June 1. In addition to his responsibilities at the medical center, Dr. Afdhal is a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School in Boston.

He is the recipient of a Fulbright Scholarship, as well as an honorary doctorate from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.
