GI leader to know: Dr. David Whitcomb of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center

David C. Whitcomb, MD, PhD, is the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center’s Precision Medicine Service director.

He is a professor of medicine, cell biology, physiology and human genetics. His research interests include pancreatic diseases, such as pancreatic cancer and severe acute pancreatitis.

Dr. Whitcomb is the editor in chief of Clinical and Translational Gastroenterology.

He is the Giant Eagle Foundation Professor of Cancer Genetics.

Dr. Whitcomb earned his medical degree and doctorate at Columbus-based The Ohio State University.
