GI leader to know: Dr. Bashar Attar of the Cook County Health System

Bashar Attar, MD, PhD, is the systemwide chairman of gastroenterology and hepatology for the Cook County Health System in Illinois, as well as the director for the system’s GI fellowship program.

Dr. Attar practices at Chicago-based John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County. Dr. Attar’s clinical expertise includes treating pancreatic and biliary disorders, as well as irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease.

He received his medical education from Evanston, Ill.-based Northwestern University, Boston-based Harvard University and the Urbana-based University of Illinois. He completed his fellowship at Stroger Hospital of Cook County.
