Gastroenterology named highest-paid medical specialty

Gastroenterology has been ranked the highest-paid medical specialty in the AMGA’s 2025 Medical Group Compensation and Productivity Survey, which analyzed data from over 184,000 providers across 500 medical groups nationwide.

According to the survey, median annual compensation for gastroenterologists reached $633,422 in 2025, marking a 5% increase from $603,157 the previous year. 

Alongside rising earnings, productivity also ticked upward. Gastroenterologists reported a median of 9,008 work relative value units in 2025, up 1.6% from 8,868 in 2024. Compensation per wRVU also rose, climbing to $70.47, a 3.7% increase from $67.93 the previous year.
