Gastroenterologist to know: Dr. John Allen of Yale Medical Group

John I. Allen, MD, is chief of the gastroenterology and hepatology department at Yale Medical group in New Haven, Conn. He also serves as president of the American Gastroenterological Association.

Previously, Dr. Allen served as quality advisor for Minneapolis-based Minnesota Gastroenterology and quality chair at Minneapolis-based Allina Health System. He has also chaired and co-chaired the task forces responsible for developing various  gastroenterology measures that CMS uses in its Physician Quality Reporting System.

Dr. Allen’s clinical interests include colon cancer prevention, general gastroenterology, inflammatory bowel disease and gastroesophageal reflux disease. He has authored more than 90 published articles and book chapters.

Dr. Allen earned his medical degree from the University of New Mexico Medical School in Albuquerque and completed both his residency and gastroenterology fellowship at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine in Minneapolis.
