Gastroenterologist pleads guilty to sexual battery — 4 insights

Fort Myers, Fla.-based gastroenterologist Asif Choudhury, MD, pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual battery, NBC 2 reports.

What you should know:

1. Dr. Choudhury was sentenced to one year in jail and two years of community service. He'll also be placed on sex offender probation for 10 years and will have to surrender his medical license.

2. He was arrested in January 2019, after a nurse witnessed Dr. Choudhury assault an unconscious patient during a procedure.

3. Dr. Choudhury practiced at Riverwalk Surgery Center and HealthPark Medical Center, both in Fort Myers.

4. Another nurse claimed Dr. Choudhury conducted similar offenses five years prior. Nothing came of the accusations.
