Gastroenterologist Marvin Sleisenger Honored With UCSF Award

Marvin H. Sleisenger, MD, a gastroenterologist at the University of California at San Francisco, was honored with the UCSF Medal, the university's highest honor, according to a UCSF news release.

"He is being recognized for his exceptional role over the past four decades in improving the care of veterans, in expanding and strengthening UCSF's overall academic programs and, more generally, for leadership in the discipline of gastroenterology," the release stated.

Dr. Sleisenger was recruited by the university in 1968 as chief of the medical service at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Due in large part to his leadership, "the SF VA has become the most acclaimed academic institution among the 155 hospitals in the national VA system," the release stated.
