Gastroenterologist Dr. Joseph Kirsner named to Medscape’s ‘Most Influential Physicians in History’ list

Medscape has released the first part of its “50 Most Influential Physicians in History” list. The list includes pioneers in genetics, physiology, oncology, infectious disease and more. Gastroenterology Joseph Kirsner, MD, PhD, is amongst the 15 physicians on the list.

Dr. Kirsner practiced at the University of Chicago for more than 70 years. He is named on the list for his research on the roles immunology and genetics play in inflammatory bowel disease. He was the first to demonstrate the connection between ulcerative colitis and colon cancer.

During his career, he published more than 700 articles and 18 books, according to the Medscape list.
