Exact Sciences building second laboratory to meet increasing Cologuard demand — 4 insights

Exact Sciences is building a second laboratory facility in Madison, Wis., to meet growing demand for the company's Cologuard test.

Here's what you should know:

1. The new laboratory will add 250-plus jobs over five years.

2. In addition to the laboratory space, Exact Sciences acquired existing office space on the land. The office currently has space for 350 employees but can be renovated to hold 1,000 employees.

3. The company already broke ground on the new laboratory. Developers estimate the lab could be complete by mid-2019. When complete, the laboratory should be able to make up to 2 million Cologuard tests annually.

4. Exact Sciences is also expanding its existing laboratory production capabilities to increase test production from 1 million tests to 2.5 million tests.

Exact Sciences CEO Kevin Conroy said in a release, "Doctors and patients are increasingly choosing the convenience of Cologuard over other colon cancer screening methods. Expanding in our hometown allows us to maintain Exact Sciences’ unique, customer-focused culture that’s made Cologuard a tremendous success. We’re excited to add to our teams and facilities to help even more people get screened with Cologuard for colon cancer."
